Besides leading his own projects - his quartet and his brass band Underground Horns - saxophonist Welf Dorr has played with the Nublu Orchestra conducted by the late Butch Morris, Karl Berger’s Improvisers Orchestra and Kenny Wollesen’s Himalayas. In a review of Dorr's recent record "Blood" All About Jazz describes his music this way: "Dorr and associates straddle the free zone, where semblances of convention seamlessly interact with mind-bending movements...executed with tenacity and forthright intentions...embellished with progressive jazz lines and blistering improvisations. " Dorr, originally from Munich, lives in NYC since 1995, where he has played and/or recorded with Sonny Simmons, Sabir Mateen, Vernon Reid, Frank Lacy and many more. He performed in the US, Europe, Mexico, Brazil and Egypt including festivals such as Willisau (Switzerland), Vision Festival or Celebrate Brooklyn as well as places as City Hall of New York.
