come celebrate 'Like a Stain, Pink' with MJ Upstairs + friends playing the record in full... intimate, anthemic, poetic, all messed up <3 joined by Caroline Strickland, Natalia Catalan, and Persephone (DJ set)

MJ Upstairs was obsessed with GarageBand as a kid. she loved the immersive process of layering her voice into angsty, blown-out demos on the family computer.
She started playing basements around Philadelphia and developed a grittier. loop-heavy sound. writing from the floor of bedroom after bedroom, she carved a lyrical niche; commiserative, tongue-in-cheek, intimate, anthemic, poetic, all messed up. her lush vocals, distorted guitars, and hypnotic rhythmic loops expanded through releases like "Exhibitionist." "This is About You." "b-sides," and a string of film scores.
After two years tangled-up in west coast highway, MJ finally lives in Brooklyn. she's in the thick of creating her second album and scoring Sundance supported short film, Arcadia. she likes Pauline Oliveros, shoe shopping, and collage.
