Dadaist Cut-up Writing Night

MILD ULCER presents our first Writing Night! At this event we will be utilizing the cut-up technique, a Dadaist creative writing method first described by Tristan Tzara in 1920.

Upon entry, you will find a large chalice full of folded up pieces of paper; Verbs, nouns, adjectives, etcetera. As well as some Halloween-themed words mixed in! (As well as a bonus bowl full of sentences you can also utilize if you're really stuck!) Ideally, you will pick at least three random words from the chalice, though, you are free to pick more! Then, write using the words you’ve just picked up. At the end there will be an optional 5-10 spare minutes for anyone who feels inclined to share what they’ve written.

However, feel free to disregard the Dadaism if you just want a space to write! It’s an hour and a half of dedicated time, with some nice background music and great drinks, to write in good company. So, come celebrate Halloween (a little early) with us! Everyone is welcome :)

Cut-up words, some spare paper and pencils will be provided. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mild Ulcer is a DIY press, situated in Queens, NY, focused on the full range of reading, writing, hearing and seeing.
